All webmasters submit to a ton of general directories. Some have just categories, so no drilling down to find sites are required by visitors and other general directories have sub-categories that do require drilling down by visitors to find sites. I have seen a lot of general directories that have sub-categories in the sub-categories. Now there is a hard one for visitors, having to click and move from one page to the other to find sites. And let me tell you, there is nothing wrong with any general directory when it comes to submitting sites. After all the way I look at it, general directories are great for backlinks. If you want better traffic, go to niche directories.

Sites by Domain Name is a very interesting niche directory to say the least. You will not find categories or sub-categories on this directory. In fact, you will find that it is not niched to say blogs or forums only. Instead it is as stated very interesting in that the categories are listed alphabetically and by TLD’s (tld=top level domain). The top 6 TLD’s only are here, from the .biz to the .org’s.

This is how this directory operates, very simple to understand and submit your site. When submitting a site to the Sites by Domain Name directory, you take the FIRST letter of your domain (eg: yourdomain.com would be y) and the TLD of your domain (in the example, .com). Then you submit it to the category that has the letter Y and the .com TLD. But pay attention to the guidelines of this directory, as I see you can not add a free blog, a deep linked site url as it must be the main url only, nor any sub-domained url.
