I think there are a lot of people who make money online (IM, writing, designers) who don't take DigitalPoint serious anymore. I have been a member for about 1.5 years and I can say that I have not visited the site in about 6 months just because I got sick of the spam and ridiculous posts. It has definitely become more of a sales website rather than question and answer or learning site.

There is a high churn rate at DP. Many of the older members move on or seem to disappear because things get way out of hand before action is taken. Overall its a good community IMO and difficult to manage because of its size and activity.

I agree that DP is not as well-maintained as we want it to be. But that's what you really have to expect with a lot of people joining in and creating new threads. The sheer amount of members on DP would need an army of mods just to keep the whole place under control. Whatever though, DP is still one of the best places on the web to learn A LOT of things about IM.

Yeah, I got a ban at DigitalPoint for asking someone to PM some info that I didn't want seen on the boards. I can understand the admins stopping people trying the bump the threads but...one infraction! Come on!

I'm a member of DP and just posted very few. So if you'll categorize me, I'm a lurker, just sitting in the corner reading stuffs and learning more about the web. I saw DP evolved because there are lots of loyal members continuing to contribute

I've got agree with Jim - I've been a member there for a while, but stopped visiting after it became apparent that most people there were trying to make money from each other! I think the average age must be somewhere about 17 as well, which left me feeling really old. I've now found a new home on a couple of other forums that seem a bit more serious about things. DP is fine if you're starting out, and it does rank well (which is probably why there are so many noobs there), but personally I've moved on.

I have been a member for the forum too and I believe there are a lot of newcomers on the forum everyday because it ranks for SO MANY long-tail webmaster queries. DP is surviving primarily because of it's momentum.
