What I had not noticed earlier and only noticed when I started writing the review is that the directory also allows free article submissions. It’s not common for eSyndicat directories to offer a ‘working’ article directory.

eSyndicat script owners and directory owners probably missed the memo when Matt Cutts wrote about how Google has ‘changed’ the interpretation of ‘nofollow’ attribute. The submit link and other internal pages still have nofollow attribute on them.

The directory 1318 listings (as of today) in business section but only 137 in financial services and 287 in Arts category, I guess they should go out of their way to fill these categories to make the directory more useful.

Overall, I would recommend website owners to submit their sites to this free web directory.

I liked HostNexus’s offer and have been thinking of moving my sites there. They are one of the very few hosting providers who provide Coldfusion Hosting at such cheap prices. Another thing that I want to try out is Ruby on Rails hosting.

I like the simple Google maps integration they have done on detail pages (not to mention the SEO friendly URLs of detail pages). As I said earlier, I like custom scripts and this one impresses me with great bread-crumbs on internal pages.

Also checkout the AJAX driven category selection mechanism, I wish PHPLD AJAX mod was as slick as this one. You should not that it’s a business directory and concentrates on business address and contact details rather than PR, Traffic etc. that usual webmaster centric web directories are prone to think about.

A lot of new categories on the business guide section of the directory. Though I miss and RSS feed on this section. Some of their articles are really good but there is no way for me to subscribe to alerts. (Maybe there is, but I couldn’t find it).

The review fee hasn’t changed on the directory, I do hope they will publish some coupons for DirectoryBlogger’s readers.

Conclusion:

iBizDir remains a solid business directory that I recommend business owners to submit their site to. For the PR hungry crowd, it’s  PR4 directory.

For people like more numbers, iBizDir has a PR 5 on the homepage and I am sure it will have many categories with a good pagerank. $34 as review fee for permanent listings and $68 for featured listings looks reasonable.

The directory has many business related articles in the Business Guides section. Initially I thought they have combined an article directory or they review some of the business submitted to their directory. But they actually post good informative reference articles in this section. I would call it a blog but the owners probably think it’s a guide and not a blog.

Here is what I like about the directory:

Slick RSS showing latest business news from Yahoo News RSS.

Articles for business owners so that directory is not just a ’submitters heaven’. Actual visitors looking for information will also come to the directory.

Regional listings

Loan calculator and currency converters. They can be really useful for business owners.

Details page has telephone number, address and a quick link to Google maps.

SEO Friendly URLs and unique titles and meta tags for each category page.

Proactively adding business / websites to their directory. All top level categories have one or two authority sites like about.com listed.
There are the things that can be improved:

I found many empty categories. They have filled top level categories themselves but I believe they should try and fill inner categories too.

Each category has a different suggest site page, which is very similar (duplicate content) and is being given 2 dofollow links from the category page. That’s a major PR leak

About page is also given a dofollow link.

Very small privacy policy (that could actually be a positive point for some)

Conclusion

Except the PR leaks it looks like a solid business directory that should add good value to a business owner submitting their websites.

I found 4-5 categories with inner PR and more than 500 links to inner pages. I would have loved to see more links to inner pages but we know it’s not easy for web directories. Link Zone’s reviewed links are permanent and I love that. Link details include usual details about the website including a link with anchor text.

It’s good to see that the directory doesn’t show “pagerank” bar everywhere. Many directories we see have outdated pageranks and in some cases they only show a broken PR N/A. Business and Shopping links are most popular categories as expected.

The copyright notice still says 2008, I hope directory owners will simply change their footer.tpl (phpld) and rectify the problem.

If you are like me and like to submit your sites to good looking directories, then hop on over and check out the Good PR Links Web Directory. Very nicely done template in red and grey with good looking icons for the navigation links. Myself I like the way that at the top are shown the latest 2 featured sites complete with a large enough thumbnail of the sites. And next to this box is another box with the latest site submitted to the directory. This is the one point of this directory that grabbed my attention and it is sure to grab yours. This is a general directory with a nice category and sub-category tree ready for you site. Go now and submit your site, the fees for yearly inclusion or permanent inclusion are not that much and should be worth the cost to be included on this directory for a good backlink and possibly some good traffic.

Categories of websites on this directory is comprehensive without having any sub-categories. Thus with all websites to be seen only on top level categories, it makes it so much easier for visitors to find any interesting website without having to drill through pages of links.

If you are a webmaster, you should submit your site to the DBX Directory, I see it is free to submit your website though all free submissions will be on the directory only for a year. Featured listings are very low in cost and well worth getting for your website so that it will be shown above any free listings plus will be shown on the main page in rotation with other featured listings. And I see that featured listings are on this directory permanently, distinct from the yearly free submissions. One other thing I noticed is that this directory will not allow other directories to submit for free, that all directories submitted to DBX Directory must purchase a featured listing. Seems an excellent choice to prevent this directory from being over run with directories.
