This is something I have seen a lot on bid directories, and that is where the owner bids his own sites, sometimes higher than any true bid from a webmaster. And would you want to bid on a bid directory where you are competing with the owner?
Seen a few great discussions about the above on a few forums, and just now, read a super post on a blog. The blog is by the owner of the phplink bid script, so he has a lot of weight when he does speak out. I would suggest you read his blog post prior to doing any more business with any bid directory, just to maybe save you some time, grief and more importantly money.
I am going to just put one or two paragraphs from his blog here, then a link to the entire post.
How do you know which bid directories to trust? Should you really bid on that brand new PR 8 directory? These are important questions when you’re submitting to a bid directory. This guide shows you how to spot the signs of a bogus bid directory, and explains how directory owners can build trust with their users.
Fake bids are the nastiest scam around. The great appeal of link bid directories is that an advertiser can control their position with their investment. When bid directory owners falsify bids on their own directory, they are greatly misleading advertisers.
Now go to the blog and read the entire post. Very eye-opening and will give you a bit of knowledge when it comes to bid directories. Read it here:
