We launched a General Free Directory last week and have been modding PHPLD to make it unique.
Among the first thing that we did was to change captcha to a math question, this has resulted into reduced spam. We also installed some SPAM removal mods including this one.

This is something I have seen a lot on bid directories, and that is where the owner bids his own sites, sometimes higher than any true bid from a webmaster. And would you want to bid on a bid directory where you are competing with the owner?
